From women bathing in tea cups to pigeons wearing boots, Sonia Lazo an illustrator from El Salvador gives us a glimpse of her great artwork. Inspiring us to be ourselves and believing in magic this 24 year old with nearly 12k following shares some of her great ideas with us.
How would you describe your artwork?
In general, I describe them as very emotional hahaha, they all relate with how I feel in this moment. You can say they are imperfect and fantasy like. I’ve always liked to add mystic and magical elements, That’s something I’ve been into for so long.
What do you want to transmit with your illustrations?
Basically my ideas and thoughts. I like to make pieces that people can relate to and feel a connection with. In reality I think that’s why I have a great acceptance from the public. It’s not about making something aesthetically perfect, but making something that people (mostly women) can relate to.
What’s your favorite character to draw?
I think I can divide in 3 ways: Women, Animals and Mystical Creatures.
Women mostly because I am one, I’m a feminist and I want to represent ourselves as strong an independent, emotional and capable to do things. I avoid genre stereotypes. Everyone is unique but at the same time connected, I try to eliminate the idea of competing always against each other.
What advice would you give to people who want to follow your footsteps?
You have to make it a habit, draw everyday. It’s the only way to find your style and improving it as you go along. Be careful of trying to make art just for people to like them. Stay true to yourself . If you want to make a living of this, promote your artwork, use social media. This doesn’t happen quickly. Be patient.
